Lot #461: Thorne’s Extra Super Creme Toffee shop display tin

We have this late 19th century Thorne’s Extra Super Crême Toffee shop counter display tin in our upcoming sale. This particular tin is fairly rare. You usually come across smaller, later versions which were sold to the public.

Henry Thorne & Co Ltd was based in Lady Lane, Leeds. Thorne’s began trading in 1837 as a mustard and chicory shop however they became best known for their ‘Health Cocoa’ and confectionery. Like Cadbury, Terry and Fry, the Thorne family were Quakers. The factory eventually closed in 1972.
