We have quite a few quirky items in this week’s auction that we wanted to highlight. We’ll start with these two religious figures, being sold as two separate lots. They are originally from a church and stand almost 4ft tall. They’ve become very popular as interior design pieces.

This pair of ladies lace up boots are Edwardian and in fantastic condition – good enough for a museum. Or perhaps they could be really brought to life and worn in a period drama!

Here we have a piece of industrial history; a vintage Alder & Mackay gas meter from 1921. It may have been decommissioned but it’s got such a great look – very steam punk –  it could be repurposed and given a new lease of life.

This tiger skin dates from the 19th century. Being pre-1947 it’s allowed to go into auction. It’s very impressive and is sure to generate a lot of interest.

This is a vintage RAC enamel sign publicising their ‘Get you home’ service. It would look great displayed on a garage wall (or pub door!).

The auction starts 10am on Friday morning (25th Sept) – viewing all day Thursday and on the morning before the sale.

'Elland is a safe town' oil painting by Peter Brook

We have a lovely original oil painting by Peter Brook (1927-2009) in our next sale on Friday 11th September 2015.

Brook is generally acknowledged as having been one of the leading portrayers of Pennine landscapes. Born & bred in West Yorkshire, he was trained at Goldsmith’s College (London University) and was elected to membership of the R.B.A. in 1962.

He exhibited in the U.S.A., Australia, London and throughout Britain, and his paintings are to be found in numerous private & public collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Tate Gallery Print Collection.

Brook’s work returns again and again to the Pennine landscape; often with a solitary man and his sheepdog. Big grey skies, snow-covered hills, moorland and the local stone buildings all feature heavily.
